Songs are a genuinely useful way to practise a language, whatever else is on the timetable. A chorus is repeated so many times in the course of three minutes that the words stick without any deliberate effort to memorise them. Because singers stretch and shorten the sounds, learners also hear how English is spoken in ordinary conversation, where words run into one another instead of being pronounced separately. Learners can sing along in private without feeling in the least embarrassed.
