Writing a few lines at the end of the day is a habit that costs nothing whatever. People who keep a diary say that it helps them notice patterns they would otherwise miss: which sort of day goes well, and what tends to go wrong, and how often. The writing itself does not have to be long or beautiful, and three plain sentences before bed are enough for most diary keepers who stay with it.
