Most schools now have a rule of some kind about mobile telephones: in a great many of them the phone must stay in a bag or a locker for the duration of a lesson, and students may use it again at break. Teachers say the rule saves a surprising amount of time, because a lesson used to be interrupted every few minutes while somebody answered a message. Parents were informed well before the change was introduced.
