Sports day is one of the few school events that absolutely everybody attends. Classes compete against one another in running, jumping and relay races, while parents come to watch from the edge of the field and photograph the finish. Teachers insist that the day is not really about winning at all: students who never say a word in class frequently discover that they are good at something in front of the entire school, which changes how everyone sees them.
